It’s like blocks of ice… shaving to get to fine lines. I have a synopsis, so I don’t need to go into all this in these sections. I think it’s getting better. Stranger Things summarized a whole season in less lines than I have… but that’s part of the exercise. Part of the fun.
The father is coming to the forefront of my mind… he works all the time… he’s a mythic figure in this house…and I’m thinking about what to do with him… do I cut him…? I have to figure that out, does she tell him…? Or does he work so much it doesn’t matter yet…right now…
Part I.
I take it really step by step. She gets there. She’s going to stay the night. And then, the next day the phone call is coming from Dr. J. Once you hook someone, you’re in, so that’s this beginning section to also show MARIA responding to normal activities are if…she’s a bit uncomfortable.
There’s already a build as MARIA exhibits strangely wild behavior…sort of around sex, too, yelling at some instructor who sees only the potential in her… about not singing her love songs!!! I’m 4!! So, by the end of this first part, Dr. J reveals that her father is a child molester…he’s coming home soon…here’s a generous amount of money if you can please just help me for a moment while I figure out what to do. This is a classic situation — leaving the abusive husband.
Okay, so does she tell her husband, Arthur? Question one. That’s pretty shocking. In fact. Probably not.
Then, she decides to play a little game with this…guy…because DR. J tells Angelita that he wants to kidnap her… Kindergarten Cop. She goes I’ll protect her, but when he calls — she’s ready. She tells me that I can’t see him again. Shush shush. We’re going to really give it to him in the end.
So this would be Part II. Once this information is revealed. But then, in such circumstances…if someone could give you money to take care of a child…but she’s not going to tell her kids, right? That’s obvious. Not yet. Lol. Jose.
Now, the father starts calling the house…in a most bizarre way… giving her some nice guy debut, wanting to tell her things…so she’s playing a nice game, she can play “nice games” too, very innocent, nice nice nice games. We see that she’s coaching Maria around this phone call, as he “wonders” if she’s “around.” Which she finds delightfully funny. And just her face, the stork that snatched a baby back— quick. When this man invited me on vacation. No, baby no. NO. We see that Maria is being prepped for lawyers, and she likes being taken in and with a five-high— YEAH! Time to dance.
As the best dance party ever unfolds…a party has its own build…so does the situation…this would be part III.
I’ll keep editing. I just don’t know exactly how to break this down.
Part III: Nick wants to come over — which throws Gabriela into MC status where Nicole and Maria begin running amuck, putting on “the happiest show on Earth” for her father who watches at a wide-open door. Gets the door slammed in his face. He just plays broken. I get she later had a whole psychological crack-up over “what she did to him,” except what SENSE does that make? Right? His manner was…look, she’d open the door, with a hilarious look on her face, anticipatory, hanging over the threshold…hardly a hello. This exchange was basic. Here she is. She’s standing at the door, guard, as he watches this spectacle to then get the door nicely slammed in his face. That’s what it was. High five! We’re doing it.
I suppose the central drama is the child molester…so that’s what I would focus on for the Structure part as his disappearance is the main problem. Or it’s me.
It’s just those…love songs…watching them and she becomes more a part of them which happens after the info comes out about the father….
I’m going to go for a walk…and let that settle…and come back to it.
